Wolfcat.org: Blogging Like It's 1999

A blog about life, love, philosophy, photography, alcohol, bitterness,
self-loathing, and an ever-growing feeling of disconnection from reality.

4:06 pm: Childhood Memories

Remember Sim City? Sure you do. Not like the flashy, complex Sim games of today, of course — the original was a lot more clunky and primitive, and I have vivid memories of spending many hours playing it on my friend’s father’s PC, an old IBM with MS-DOS and a massive 16 colours to play with. I remember the vivid blues, yellows and greens of the zones, and the orange ground upon which it all resided.

But, more than anything, I remember loading up one of the large, pre-built, example cities such as Boston, then causing multiple fires, earthquakes, and nuclear meltdowns. Then, once all the chaos had died down and the city was little more than a rubble-filled wasteland, strewn with nuclear material that would remain for years to come, I’d pretend I was in Mad Max or something and attempt to build a new empire from the ashes of the old.

Those were good days.
